WIDE BEAM FIT OUT 2017-11-24T11:38:26+00:00

A Complete Service

While we at Chiselpig are highly experienced boat joiners, we also work with a select group of specialist craftsmen, each with many years experience working on boats in their own field, to provide a complete boat building service. They include steel fabricators, boat painters, electricians experienced in 12 and 24 volt systems and plumbers. Our combined experience will provide you with a professionally designed, built and fully fitted wide beam ready to move onto and start exploring the UK’s waterways.

By combining your ideas with our many years of practical experience we really can make your dreams a reality!

Working Closely with our Clients bespoke bedroom in widebeam narrowboat

For the type of bespoke fit out work we undertake on behalf of our clients, we tend to work very closely together, with you regularly visiting the workshop to discuss the various options available and of course, to see how the work is progressing. In some cases the client likes to be even more involved, helping with the work and we welcome this approach too, of course, if you would rather leave us to get on with it we are perfectly happy with that too.

While we are more than happy to take on standard boat fit outs, where we really excel is in those jobs where you are looking for something a bit special, such as a feature bathroom, galley or perhaps a sweeping staircase to bring you in from the deck. Even better is if you have a particular theme or style in mind we can build on this and apply this throughout the boat, incorporating numerous subtle features, a recent example being an Art Deco theme which we applied when renovating a 1930’s gentlemans launch (a lot of thought and hard work went into it, but we love that boat!)

We also do partial or complete refits, repairs and upgrades to all kinds of boats, so either way, we welcome the opportunity to discuss your plans and provide you with a quote, so please do get in touch.

timber bathroom in dutch bargeHaving worked on numerous wide beams in recent years including those designed for living aboard full time and holiday boats, we are experienced in fitting boats with a wide range of timber, making sure it’s elegant yet hard wearing and practical. The most popular wood at the moment tends to be Oak, Ash, Iroko, British Columbian Pine and Utile, which is very similar in appearance to the Mahogany used in many high end Dutch Barge wheelhouses and on older river cruisers but is slightly more cost effective.

Much of the work we do can be undertaken along the towpath, however, more likely for a complete fit out, we do all the work from our Devizes workshop. Here we have the space for 2 widebeams to be kept secure and undercover. This is in addition to our joinery workshop next door, where we hand craft and machine timber for each specific clients boat, taking it to the boat in situ to be fitted in cases where the boat is already in the water.
